Speaking for my own caique, Andy, he is extremely affectionate and a big ham. He is 3 years old and from day 1 was super sweet and gentle. He likes to be with me and on me at all times. Once out of his cage he is usually not content to sit on top for long, he will often climb down and come over to me and climb up my pants leg until I either scoop him up or he reaches my shoulder. If I'm busy he will try to worm his way into whatever I'm doing and get involved somehow. He loves to be tickled on his belly while he's laying on his back. He is really a very sweet and loving fella and a huge attention hound. Andy was a bit loud when I first got him and to be honest, his screaming was frustrating. He had been raised with a macaw and would often imitate the loud sounds it made. But I quickly learned quite a bit about keeping him occupied with a variety of foraging toys and activities so now he is pretty quiet and I'm quite pleased with the turnaround in his behavior. I have spent a small fortune on toys but I've found other ways to keep him busy without spending more money. One time I took an empty kleenex tissue box and stuffed it full of plain paper. At first he seemed afraid of it. A little while later I found him talking to it. He was sitting next to the box and making little chortling noises. Still later, he began to pull the paper out bit by bit and shred it. It kept him busy for hours. I also have a GCC but they don't play together. When Andy does scream, which is seldom, it's his way of trying to get my attention, or letting me know that he is bored. He is very inquisitive and always looking to play or for something to get into. Now I'm trying to get him to learn to whistle the theme song to The Adams Family. He tries, but the poor thing can only get out a little toot. Hehe
I am very biased and happen to think they make wonderfully loving companions.

During breeding season and sexual maturation, they can be vicious, screamy, aggressive, hateful of strangers (and you), jealous, testy, easily offended, and just plain mean.
What you saw at the fair was one half of how that caique probably acts. Any caique who does not employ the aggressive behaviors during hormonal times is one in a million.
Caiques can co-exist with other bird species but there are plenty of testimonies out there saying that caiques do not do well with other birds, except for other caiques. This is true in my experience as well.
Nothing like a sun conure in my experience. Suns are way more laid-back and user-friendly, lol. Caiques... Not so much. More "advanced" level of bird care in all angles.
Granted, they are the funniest little clowns I have ever seen!

I have two young caiques and everything that everyone said so far is true. They are a lot of everything...sweet, affectionate, loving, bossy, stubborn, mean, loud, etc..the only other birds I have experience with are cockatiels and eclectus..and so far caiques are by far the most energetic, most playful, and also the most loud. They LOVE to chew everything and have drawn blood from me a few times (they hate it when you make them stop doing whatever it is they are doing...they get into such a frenzy) but I would not trade them for anything and I never regret bringing them home. They have not yet hit sexual maturity yet so I do not know what to expect..but they definitely are a joy & keep me on my toes! It's fun to just watch them play together sometimes..they like to play rough and will even wrestle my hand when I am willing to let my flesh go in for a little beating. =)

Caiques are great little birds and will keep you amused always. A couple of my caiques are much noisier than either of my sun conures. It can be a very annoying scream - of course mine all get each other going. They scream when I run water, vacuum, run the microwave, etc. And they scream just because they want my attention. My sun conures usually only scream to warn me of something outside - the alarm call. I love my caiques - but some of my friends don't appreciate the noise. I think having just one wouldn't be so bad. Since they are such high energy birds, having 5 of them probably isn't the best idea either - but I would not trade them.
What kind is your Cricket? And Sassyfras is a whitebelly right?
