I have some great news! Pericles is now a little over a year old and he is already a great speaker!
He says, Hello, I love you, muah!, oh my god, thank you, i love you pericles, Opa!, and some more things I can't think of at the moment.
The thing is... he is only talkative when he is by himself. He wont talk if he sees anyone within 20-30 feet. We have to be pretty far away for him to talk comfortably otherwise he will just be quiet and pretend he was never talking. Infact when I play with him the only noises he makes are little "ahhs" never words.
I read that it is common for Eclectuses to be closet talkers, but I didn't read how to get them out of their shell and actually start talking to me.
I'll take new pics soon to show you how he's doing!
Thanks in advance!

Do we get to see a picture of the one year old????

Of course all I got were wide innocent eyes, and shut beaks. lol

He's going through his first molt right now. So excuse some little less feathery spots. He already got most of his new tail feathers, i think his last new one is coming in now from the looks of it and a few of his wing feathers molted off.
Well, pictures you requested and pictures you shall receive!! But I expect some comments in return ;-) I'm a gushing mommy after all.
I hope those worked!

You've a lovely bird, and have the right to gush a little.

Sometimes he likes to be independent and sometimes he doesnt want to leave my side. :-S I had him in my room just a little while ago and when i left him on his perch and was about to walk out I saw him getting ready to fly (You know the pose) So i had to turn back to get him so he could come with me to get water.... lol.... On the same note, when I watch TV with him and he's sitting on my hand on the armrest... he will simply fly away to his cage when he's bored with me... lol!
P.S. Do you have pics of your birds posted? I'd love to see!

My birds can act just like that. Either they 'must' be by my side, or I'm just not wanted at the moment.

I would love to get a macaw one day (blue and gold or scarlet).... or a female ekkie. I'm definitely thinking But it wont be any time soon.
I just think if I get Pericles a little girl he might get too attached to her...and lose his love for me. (Yes i'm greedy and I want all his love! lol.)

I used to think the same way (I wanted all their love), but now years down the road, I think I'd not mind sharing so much if one of mine did bond with another bird.
But for now, you just love that pretty boy, and don't feel guilty about being greedy!

Anyway the point to that was, Pericles is a little jealous monkey. Any time i spend time with Nicky he will run up to the side of his cage closest to me and Nicky to see what I'm doing. It's very funny! I love how nosey/jealous he is. I think if I had him outside while I spend time with Nicky he would fly over and land on my head! lol.

I had two questions for you (since you have a lot of ekkies and breed them) and I somehow captured the perfect pictures to show you! Anyone else that knows the answer feel free to answer too!
Under his wings he has a lot of grey down feather, it seems he is in the middle of his first molt (he was born July 10, 2009) since he recently dropped tail and wing feathers... but I was wondering if he will be fully red underneath his wings? Are the down feathers there because he is still young? Just curious about that.
The other thing i wanted to know has to do with the feathers on his back and on his wings... they seem "messy", some grey shows through too. How come they aren't smooth like this bird's All sizes | Beautiful Wings | Flickr - Photo Sharing! ?
Thanks in advance :-)

The red under his wing is still molting also and will eventually fill in. He's fine!

Dianaalrusty: Yeah it seems lots of birds are closet talkers. Pericles always looks at me with innocent eyes when i walk in on him. hehe.
