Alternative Ways To Identify?

I need a way to be able to tell them apart as they continue to grow; it's been quite easy for the moment since the youngest hasn't really gotten pin feathers in yet, but the second and first babies are getting neck and neck in terms of development and how they look. For my records and syringe allocation- not to mention I need to know which bird goes with which DNA sexing certificate when I send blood off and get the results back- I need some safe method for marking them so I can keep track of who's who.
I don't want to split band since I've heard horror stories and my breeding mentor says she's known sunnies to be really unsuitable for splits since they like to clamp down on the rings with their beaks and make them way too tight on their little leg

That seems to easiest way, I think- until they get proper feathers then it mightn't be so easy I'll just have to get mum to grab me a couple of different colours when she's at the shops next. Thanks
