My mam has just been given two lovely canaries. One of them ( Male i think ) always sits in the corner of the cage sleeping and huddling into itself! Is he sick or just likes to sleep alot?

Probably sick......... I'm no canary authority but I would do the following - having kept canaries in the past myself..... Check the vent area for diarreah staining and watch it closely for labored breathing/tail bobbing. Check keel bone (breastbone) to see if it is pronounced with very little "meat" on either side. Listen for clicking sounds when breathing. Watch other canary to see if it is picking on huddled one or keeping him from eating.....Check for mites....Can ya post a close up pic of the male or both?....Probably best to separate them for now. Give the male heat asap, ya can keep the cages right next to each other. I would also make sure ya have fresh seed in there and add a wedge of apple, a wedge of orange (for quick energy) and a well rinsed/crisp piece of Romaine lettuce and a piece of fresh broccoli, corn on cob. I would add some spray millet, cuttle bone, a little ground charcoal for birds, 10 minute boiled eggshells ground up is good too in place of or in addition to the cuttlebone....Maybe add some fresh pedialyte or gatoraide to the drinking water or in an additional drinking vessel, change often..... Keep out of drafts and away from kitchen & heavy traffic areas.....Once ya are sure he is getting better add some fresh eggfood.......Make sure feeding and drinking vessels are spotless and disinfected by cleaning & soaking in clorox & water at least.....Make sure perches & cage are extremely clean....Of course check with an A.V. if ya can, local breeder, bird only pet shop - all these people can probably help ya further & also check out a canary chat board for specialized help........Good luck....
Thanks for the advice, ill let my mam know!
