A small Gimli update.

For those not familar with his story, you can read about it here: http://www.birdboard...vy-1006999.html
He's seems to really enjoy coming out, and hanging out on the top of his cage, he'll venture over to the bigger bird's cages, and gets a real thrill when getting to the top of them! He now makes so many cool sounds, yet is not a loud bird at all. He's very vocal, and responds to me when I talk, by chirping back.
Up to now, the closest he's wanted to come to me, was to take a peanut from my fingers. They're his biggest weakness, and I use them shamelessly. lol He just hasn't been comfortable around my hands at all. If he thinks I'm 'reaching' for him, he goes on defense, and fakes some lunges and fluffs up. I don't really think he wants to bite, but I'm really not too interested in pushing it.
The other day I decided he had to get his talons trimmed, and did it myself. I toweled him. I was afraid he'd hate me. He did express distaste for the process, but held no grudges, and actually seemed a little more friendly during the following days. So I began trying to get him to come to me for some scritches. It began just through the bars of his cage, and today was a very high point for me.
Today I had my other 3 on the deck, and just Gimli in the house climbing about the cage tops. He's gotten on top of Chaos's cage (very tall!) and was vocally expressing his delight in being king of such a splendid domain. I went in too talk with him a bit, held my fingers out in a caressing way (as I've done countless times), and lo and behold, he came to me! Not once, but time and time again.
Here's my little green gremlin doing so. I begged my daughter to snap a few shots. She obliged. I've still got the 'step up' to master, but little by little, we're getting there.

It was so awesome his slowly walking towards me (he was on the back of the cage top), putting his head down, and coming right under my fingers. I'm stoked.

He looks so healthy, colorful and shiny now. That's GREAT progress!!!!! Have you had him out on the porch yet with the others? But it sounds like the one on one is just what the doctor ordered!!! Wonderful job.
No, not out on the porch yet. The biggest reason is it's got all glass doors, and while my birds have been raised with glass awareness, I'm not sure Gimli has any. I'd hate for him to panic and hit them as he's fully flighted. I also haven't conquered carrying him around yet, so getting him out there is another problem. I have rolled his cage out once or twice, and he did enjoy that.
I agree he's got such pretty plumage. Such a difference from the scruffy little bird he was. I think just interest in life (and a few showers) were all that was needed for his feather health to improve. It took no time at all. I was really surprised at how quickly his feathers shaped up.

He's not used to his power. He never nibbles. And I know he's not aggressively acting up. He's really loving the play time with me. He just doesn know his "play" bite hurts.
I taught him how to give kisses and shake hands.
But I think he really just wants picked up lol. He lifts his foot way up lol.
He preens my hair too. Used to be rough and not pleasing. But now he does it perfact. Very relaxing.
Point is I bet gimli will for sure become some little lover.
And you did an awesome job with him. I bet he's so happy
Thankyou so much for my WONDERFUL sig macawpower58!!
