Go.........Fly With The Angels Howie
Posted 07 June 2011 - 12:55 AM
We are devastated at this loss, Howie was a big part of our family and will be terribly missed by all who knew him.
We got a chance to come see him before he left us and he did not look good at all. The vet herself who had to deal with the same kind of decision with one of her own macaws was 100% sure that there was nothing we could do for him.
The necropsy was done and is pointing to PDD as the main cause(lots of medical terms I couldn't understand)
We are happy for the year and a half we got to spend with this wonderful creature, it was a pleasure sharing our lives with him.
Thanks for all your support.

I don't know anything about PDD but from what I've read on the other threads, people are saying it's contagious - please make sure you've protected and/or tested the rest of your flock.

So sorry to hear. Please, please do what you can to test your other birds as they have all been exposed. Here is a great article that explains in layman's terms PDD. Please see the section called Protecting Your Birds. If this link does not come thru properly, just type in your browser.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I so know what that is like.

Forgive me for *having* to ask; but have your other birds been tested for PDD yet? It's a horrifying disease and before you consider another GW, you may want to discuss the issue of it spreading and such. I know you're going through a difficult time and I surely feel for you but I know the ravages of this disease and it's not easy.
Again, my condolences.

howie must have been flying free and away from his illness now...
btw, if you dont mind me asking
what is the early symptoms of the illness and how old howie was when you know that he wasnt doing well?
what happen is
i just acquire a green wing macaw. the age is about 1 year old. it was an imported bird and many of the expert here believe that it was a wild caught bird.
they also warn me of PDD desease that commonly host by wild macaw and they are warning me that my macaw might have the illness too.
i read quiet a fair bit about the illness, but really appriciate if i could hear from some one personal encounter...
i tried not to bother about the illness as i read that the illness is almost impossible to be diagnosed and cant be cured...its like there is nothing i can do about it...
but i cant help it but to worry for my baby condition....
btw, he is doing well, eating perfectly and responding superbly fine to all his training programme...
