Sun conure refusing seed diet
Posted 22 September 2011 - 09:09 AM
I am new to this forum and please bear with me on my novice questions. I bought a sun conure about a month back and the breeder said it was a 60 day old bird. I have been hand feeding him with weaning food and cerelac mixed. He refuses to eat any other diet even if i leave him unfed a whole day. He relishes on sun flower seeds though. Is this a normal tendency of the bird? How do I get him feed on seed / fruit / Vegie diet. Please advice.
Here is a picture I shot a few weeks back:

Do you have any seed mixes without sunflower seeds? If not, try picking out the sunflower seeds.
Do you have any pellet mixes over there? If so, you may want to feed pellets over seeds (mostly).
How about sprouting the seed and feeding that once the seeds have begun to sprout tiny tails?
Have you tried offering steamed veggies, cooked grains and healthy cooked legumes? Feeding soft warm foods may help.

There's also the option of mixing a small amount of baby human food (vegetable flavored, such as peas, sweet potato, etc) into his formula.
Do you think you could get us a picture of his setup?
