I will post more on how I did it soon. I have made several pieces already and they all came out consistently. Anyone will be able to do this too. All I used was a regular hand drill and the "special bit" I used. lol......

Here is also the link to Home Depot for the Wood Rasp. I got it right in the store.
Here is a short video I did so you can see how I did it. Also I will make another video later if you like about how to stain the PVC Pipe any color you want. THis is dye staining, NOT plastic spray paint that can scrach or flake off. I might even make a few of the tablet top/travel stands as you see here for sale on eBay for those who are not inclined try this themselves.
If you have any questions just message me

That's so simple! I can't believe it's so easy. I'm headed to home depot today. Thanks so much for the video. How does the bit look after you have made a few? Is it going to last a good while or is the PVC wearing it down quickly? At 4 bucks, I guess it doesn't matter too much, I was just curious.
I think it will last for a very long time. lol... I have gone through at least 5 or 6, 10 foot lengths and it still cuts it as if it was the first. But as you said too for only $4 bucks its worth it even if it only lasted half of that. I am now making a few ATOM Ring hanging gyms I guess it will have a more octagon look to it, but all the surface will have this texture to it. I will post pictures when I have it done. I had to order some special pvc fittings you can't buy in any store.

Very nice and looks easier than I thought you were going to show/tell us......I would love to see a video ( your 1st instructional video was great) of how you stained it and what you used
Glad you like it. I will post a video on staining soon. I am waiting for information from the company who make the dyes. I want to post some pictures and tech info with there permission first. Also I have had several people now ask me if it is bird safe colors. So I will post soon.

How do you use this stand? Mine would stay on there about 14 seconds then bail. What do you use to keep them interested in staying on the stand?????
Hmmm, I guess it depends on the birds lol...... Mine never fly off any perch I put them on. They will just sit there for hours if I let them. :-)

Once the Cleaner evaporates and it does within seconds, and let the pvc pipe air out for several days, I have always felt it was completely safe. I have never had any health problems with my birds.
And by the way, the PVC Pipe Cleaner is the main ingredient of the staining process. It is the stuff I said you have to use in a well ventilated area or it will knock you for a a loop. You just add the dye to the pvc pipe cleaner and shake and just use the applicator to brush it on the pvc pipe.
So here is the links on the process of how to do it, also I have included a link to eBay with the company in New Jersey that makes the dye. They sell it on eBay. If you want multiple colors make sure you ask for them to discount the shipping cost. They will. The dye as of this post is $13.00 for a 1 once bottle. And 1 ounce will last you a long time.
One word of caution too, MAKE SURE YOU WERE GOGGLES AND GLOVES!!!
This dye is super concentrated. If you think its hard to get a tattoo off, you will not want to get this stuff on your skin It will be there for good. I still can't get the spot off that hit my arm.

Link to buy the Dye on eBay:
I asked the person who wrote the article on pvc staining about his thoughts on how "Bird Safe" he thinks this would be. Here is his email response to me:
Truthfully, I don't know, but I would bet at 19 to 1 odds that it will be fine. The molecules in the dye are oil-soluble only, and all living things are water based. So unless the bird eats the plastic, there's basically no way the dye is going to get into its system. Even if it does, I don't think that would be any more harmful than eating UN-dyed PVC plastic, because the dye molecules will stay in the plastic and pass through the bird without being absorbed into its blood. But I'm not an expert, and if there's much doubt you should probably err on the side of caution. Thanks again for reading, and for writing. Cheers- Sean "
So in closing I say again, "Use At Your Own Discretion" My feelings are that is it completely safe. I have even put the pvc pieces I stain through the dish washer several times. Nothing rubs off once its cured.
Again, if you have any questions just message me.
