A few weeks back, I had gone across the street to grab a bite to eat (it was dusk and getting quite dark), and when I came back, I saw a (prairie?) falcon taking off with one of the starlings, as the poor starling screamed in terror. I felt terribly sorry for the starling, but realized that the bird of prey needs to eat, too!

I see very few of them this far north but then I have Merlins (small falcons) that nest 100 feet from my front door... this is one of the scary bedtime stories I tell the fids when I tuck them in that, if they get out, their are evil falcons waiting for them.
Truthfully... the falcons are beautiful and the babies are adorable when they hatch out and start their adventures.
The city also has several nesting pairs of Perigrine falcons and one stopped to sort out it's meal (a pigeon) on my roof last summer and this is one really impressive bird to see.
