Canary acting weird...?

my family recently 'rescued' a canary.. we found it outside our house on a very hot summer day, panting and looking dehydrated. it was too weak to fly away, so we were able to catch it and gave it a home. the bird had been adjusting fine (flying around very active, eating lots, etc) - but for the past two days the bird is sitting mostly at the bottom of its cage with its feathers fluffed up. i've done research and know that this is the sign of a sick canary, but i don't have any more hints to what is going on besides that. occassionaly he (or she?) will fly up to a perch and sit, so its not completely sedentary, but its still not how it was before.
first i thought maybe this was breeding behavior, so we've given it a place to nest and they are sitting in there occasionally, but are there any other thoughts on what we can do to make it feel better?
