Rest In Peace Beautiful Roger _No One Can Hurt You Again

Rest in peace my beautiful friend, although abused your first 24 years on earth, you were valued beyond belief by me your last two and a half.
Fly free now, knowing no one can ever harm you again. I will always love you. You were the most special of all the special animals I have had.
"Hope is a thing with feathers
That perches on your soul
And sings a song - without the words
and never stops at all"

If you are in a domestic abuse situation and YOU can not leave for some reason, at least send your pets to rescue, they do not deserve to be abused also, like he was, ironically trying to "protect" someone who did little to protect him all those years. He was a brave and wonderful bird. He deserved better and while I am glad I got to give him two and a half years of love and safety - he deserved so much more, as do they all.
I pray each day that people who have birds will protect them, take the time to STUDY about them so they don't harm they by accident, by teflon pans or sprays or scented candles, dangerous foods, or numerous other things - and most of all, if they even remotely look sick, please take them right in to a QUALIFIED AVIAN VET. Birds don't act sick until they are very sick. Roger was fine one day, simply not eating the next and dead within less than 12 hours, even though I rushed him right in. My avian vet always says "you do not have the window of time with parrots that you do dogs and cats" (not that you should not take them in right away either. I hope he did not die in vain if this helps someone...even though I did take him right in.
I understand parrots are more high maintenance than dogs or cats, and require a lot of work, put please if you just want one to amuse you and can not take on all the hyper vigilance and all the responsibility that goes with owing one, please do not get one. If you know of anyone in a domestic violence situation, please encourage them to at least send their pets to rescue, much sooner than 24 years. Rogie would like that. He deserves to leave a legacy for other birds...I hope.
