I'm a TERRIBLE bird mom!!

I rescued him from the sofa an didn't see anything physically wrong with him. He is molting as well, so a few feathers here and there didn't surprise me. I thought everything was fine. This morning, Perry's right eye was red and swollen. Crap.
Went to the vet and he pushed away some of Perry's feathers on his head to reveal that he had scratched or bumped himself somehow. It looked so bad. It didn't look like that the night before and I thought I looked throughly enough.
I received ointment which I am to put in both eyes twice a day for 2 weeks. Since eye infections are incredibly contatgious, i must do this to both tiels.
I go home and look under the couch and sure enough, Perry had chewed one of the rattan weavings and it popped out of its loops. It must have snapped him in his face.
Now they're gonna hate me because every day, for two weeks, everytime i reach in there I'm going to put "glop" in their eyes. Perry hates the stuff the most. He rubs it all over himself.
The picture shown is much worse than it actually is... the ointment makes it look gooey.
I feel like such crap they they're suffering because I was so careless. I should be the one to get socked in the eye!
I've been giving them extra millet and meal worms today.

Accidents do happen.
The main thing is he is alive and he should recover.
And you are there for him, doing what you can to make him know he is still loved.
