Safe, probably. Good for them, nope. Cost effective, h#!! no. Why would you want to pay $1.59 for 4oz of canned fruit in some sort of mystery sauce? Fresh is cheap and oh so healthy. You can get a whole papaya for $2.00. Feed it fresh for a few days and whatever is left, cut into chunks, freeze, and add it in next time you make bird bread. Way more cost effective and healthy. This is what I do with most fruits and veggies. Also, your grocery store also has a "clearance" shelf where produce that needs to sell that day is marked way down. I got 2 mangos for 95 cents this week. What you can't use fresh, freeze and mix into bird bread or juice them or puree it and make birdy pops for the hot summer days. Feeding birds is expensive and you have to do what you can to stretch that dollar and still meet the nutritional needs of your bird.
