I only had parakeets and cockatiels when I got my first caique as a 7 year old. I very foolishly assumed if you've owned one bird you've owned them all... but that is SO not the case. Caiques are incredibly emotionally demanding. Mine literally want to cling to me, like every single waking moment of the day. And they cry for me when they have to go back into their cage. They're also very "pushy"... they want what THEY want, and right now! They are total night and day from my goffin's cockatoo... she's quiet, laid back, very gentle.
But I LOVE my caiques. Would not trade them for the world. Even when they're screaming in my ear when I'm on the phone with someone, or when I have guests over. They are my babies. Maybe I've spoiled mine too much, but I just adore them. It's been almost three years now since I got them. They are awesome little birds... they're really a big parrot in a small bird body.
