I've seen cockatiels do that. I wasn't sure if it was just them showing off, having fun or trying to make themselves bigger due to a perceived thread. I've seen a lutino cockatiel do it before, but none of my own cockatiels (and I've cared for a total of 8 now) have ever done it. All of them, except one, were also older, rehomed adults. Of those 8, I still have 4, lost one due to health reasons and found new homes for the other 3. I completely forgot about cockatiels hanging upside down with wings and tail spread since none of mine have ever done it!

i have heard of this being a declaration of property, rue does this when he is on his hanging toys, flips upside down, opens his wings, starts flapping and sings. i take this as him saying "this is mine, i love it, you can't have it!"
