If you are comfortable enough with him to allow him out of the cage, then allow him out and sit in the same room and watch him (making sure it is safe for him to be out first). Have millet with you while you read, watch tv, or talk to him. If you make each experience a positive one, then in time he may enjoy coming out without millet.

I have fed seeds one day and pellets the next. I have been considering going back to this as well. Have also done seeds for two days and pellets for two days. I have one tiel that came to me eating seeds, but was completely unfazed eating pellets the first time she saw them! In fact, if there's seeds in the dishes and I offer pellets by hand, she'll eat the pellets first! LOL The other birds had to learn to accept pellets as part of the diet, and it took a while longer for them to readily eat pellets, but now that they do, they eat either.
