Since you're the resident parrotlet expert, I have a question. I have a member on my board who is waiting for her new parrotlet to be weaned. Her breeder keeps telling her it has to be under a heat lamp for 10 weeks. Is that true? May I give her your email addy so she can ask you questions.? I have NO knowledge of parrotlets and feel that any advice I may give will be useless.

I have never heard of keeping parrotlets under a heat lamp for 10 weeks! Once they are fully feathered I have them down to room temperature, they should wean at about 6 weeks of age. I usually keep them for 1 to 2 weeks after they have weaned to make sure they are eating well on their own. A single parrotlet may have trouble weaning, they learn to eat by watching and interacting with each other. Usually by 8 weeks they are ready to go to their new homes.
