I heard the blue jays making a ruckus (actualy, they are grey breasted jays) outside, that I at first thought it was the starlings (jays usually don't visit us in our part of the neighborhood). When they wouldn't "shut up" I went out to see what the issue was.
I saw two jays in one of our trees making a huge fit over what, at first glance, appeared to be a fallen nest. However, I didn't recall any large nest within the tree to create such a mess... until I took a better look, and realized it was an owl! The owls have never really visited us either, as they prefer the trees that surround the park, which is near a dry lake. Therefore, it was a bit of a surprise to see this 'guy' over here!
I'm not entirely sure what he is, other than he's got horns! I'm guessing he might be a Great Horned Owl. I actually have a picture of one in flight, however, since it was taken with a camera phone that doesn't take the best of pictures, all you can make out is a bird shape.
