Are split peas and beans okay for Ekkies?

If he had his way, he'd eat nothing but green split peas and garbanzos. However one of the workers at the bird store said that is too much protein for him. Just wondering what is a good diet mix for him? He is about 5 months old now.
thanks in advance, Clare

I put a very small amount of seed in every evening (1 Tbs) . The rest is fruits, vegies, and a cooked mix like one of the Crazy Corn varieties or Bird St. Bistro. I also keep pellets in there in case they want some.

Mine like sprouted garbanzos much better than cooked. Garbanzos and lentils sprout very easily and very quickly.
Regarding too much protein: Since you are trying to provide a complete protein (the brown rice and the legumes) and you are feeding a YOUNGSTER, I don't think you should worry at all. Give him lots of healthy foods for the next couple years while he is still maturing and he will accept healthy foods when he is an adult. IMO fats are what you want to be concerned about with these birds, not protein, especially vegetable proteins which you are feeding.
