Are many U.S. stores unwilling to label packages sent to Canada as gifts or do something similar to lower the costs to their customers? It seems that they would be bending over backwards to appease you rich and picky Canadians! That is a joke, please do not kill me.
Why are your import fees so high? What would happen if I had a store and wanted to send you $150 worth of products but instead of using my company name I just shipped it using my own name so it appeared to be a personal package? Is that allowed or not?

This is totally incorrect. Canada does not have import fees on goods made in the USA. It is the private couriers that charge these fees - in the guise of "brokerage fees." The Canadian governments do not get one cent of these fees - they go to the profit of the courier companies. The HST is a tax we pay in some provinces in Canada on ALL goods (Canadian, USA or other country's goods) - part of which goes to fund our health care system and part of which funds other infrastructure items.
Import fees are high in Canada because they want to make it difficult and expensive to import goods (theoretically so that people buy only Canadian-made goods). Oh, and because they are mostly socialized in things like healthcare and other "government services" - which means they have to fund those services somehow.
