I love to learn and constantly seek the truth.
City / State / Country Location
research, dogs, birds, training dogs, horses, reading, drawing, etc.
Hane (said: Hah-nay; meaning: feather, plume, wing), a male IRN, will be three years of age in March of 2008. He and his brother were given to me and my sister and we hand-raised them (abundance weaned) to be the wonderful parrots they are today. We went through the bluffing stages and whatnot rather well (though my sister's temper got the better of her on occasion with her parrot, Tsume (said: tSue-may; meaning: talon, fang, claw)) and with good training and consistancy we have great companions.
The budgies (Rei, Neo, and Storm) were bought for me by my family after my beloved Sam (also budgie) died at the age of eleven.
Killer (normal grey 'tiel) was given to me by a neighbor long ago. I would estimate his age now to be between 16-18 years. He is evil (came with the name 'Killer') and has never been hand-tamed (I believe he was beaten as his fear is of hands) so is content with his aviary and his companion, Persephone.
Persephone (pearl 'tiel) was a rescue from a local shelter, Pet Pal Rescue- honestly I adopted her to quiet my single male 'tiel... and it worked. I will not breed them, they are only companions. As for the name... I happen to enjoy greek mythology.
My dream birds are the green winged macaw and vosmaeri eclectus. Males, of course. I do not think I will ever add another bird into my family despite the temptation. Hane is perfect for me, doesn't require to much or too little of my time and is even content with weeks of absence if I am on vacation. I am, at heart, a dog person and frankly Hane is the dog of the bird world. He is the perfect parrot for me at this time, and for the next 25 (hopefully thirty or more) years.
My canine companion, Geronimo, has been with me ten years now and is eleven years of age. He was at the SPCA for six months before I found him so had spent half his life there for being "too hyper". With consistancy and training, he is perfect and has been since the first month he came into my life. I still can't belive as a twelve year old child I saw a dog who wouldn't pay one lick of attention to me and said, "I want that one." But I am so very happy I did.
I worked at an animal shelter for over a year before quitting after my foster dog was put down. He was a deaf boxer- beautiful, intelligent, and misunderstood. It wasn't anyone's fault but I still became severely depressed and so had to leave what really was a great job. I have rather strong opinions on controlling dog breeding and blame much on the AKC and their lack of influence where it is needed most but I won't get into that on a bird forum (I am not one of those people who believe dogs should not be bred, in fact, I believe they should be but by only responsible breeders.). I now work in Landscaping again and enjoy my work. I enjoy even more going home at the end of a long day to be greeted by my dog and a "Hey Hane," from my IRN.
What other type of pets do you own?
