I just had an incident. I have called the vet, he said to keep her quite and call him in the morning... is that sort of like "take an aspirin and call me in the morning?" Gotta keep it light or I will puke!
Bobbi was having a spot of dinner at her usual place, on the kitchen sink on her T stand. I dropped a hard plastic container of about 500 safety pins making a huge noise. Spooked her.. she went flying... she has several flight feathers coming in so she went quite some distance. One got caught under her shoulder like it can but it was not broken just out of place... I tried to pick her up but she ran from me. To make a long story short... fI got her and tried to have her fluff her feather out (I have done this hundreds of times before) but she took off again. Again she would not let me pick her up she got to the cage, got on top and would not step up for me... did not bite me but warned me that if I keep at it she was going to. For the next hour I tried on and off to get her to come to me but she would not. Seeming scared to death of something... but the pins were long gone.
She was all hunched over with her wings lowered like a baby does. Time and time again I tried... with food, treats and all manner of method. I lowered the blinds to make it more calm in the room but still no go. I looked everywhere, took my clogs off (post op shoes I have been wearing since March!) but heck I didn't know... I moved out every thing that seemed scary and still she was scared to death. Finally... I see Mr. Potato head with no eyes or mouth sitting on her travel cage. I took it away and instantly she came to me!
I took her to her T stand in the kitchen and she gobbled up some birdie bread soaked in carrot juice. I left her alone for a bit... came back and she leaned over to kiss me. I noticed that her eyes had a blood red ring around her eyes! Oh God just like the tears a member on the AGO board had happen!!!! ... I knew something was wrong and called the vet. I explained what happened and he said she got "slushed" to keep her quiet and call him at 8am tomorrow with a progress report.
She is grinding her beak and sleeping on and off on her T stand... can hardly keep her eyes open... sort of like her body needs to re coupe from the trauma.
I am scared to death!
Anyone else heard of slush?
I have not had time to look it up since I am writing this and checking on her...
Carol can you look up slushed for me?
I will be back in a moment...
