City / State / Country Location
My pets...a horse and 2 macaws
I have a Harlequin Macaw named Newton, after Sir Isaac Newton. I have one Scarlet Macaw name Elliot, it just fit his little personality.
Newton was my first macaw. (HD: 01-28-05) I bought him from a reputable shop that specializes in exotics. It was love at first sight for both of us. He was 8 wks old and like the movie, "Jerry Maguire", I walked back to the nursery and this little or should I say "big" 8 wk old half-feathered baby Harlequin looked up at me and said, Hewwooo!. That was it! I knew I was his. LOL We bonded in 1 day and I've been hooked on macaws ever since. He is my clown, my genius and my challenge. He keeps me on my toes all the time.. I call him my ADHD boy.
Elliot was my "unplanned" child. (HD: 03-22-07). He had been at the shop since he was a hatchling. He has a birth defect in his right wing and the tendons never formed properly so he will never be able to fly. I brought him home when he was
14 mos. At first, he didn't like me at all when I first visited the store for supplies. When he was about a year, I would go to the shop to pick up supplies for Newt and he started talking to me and playing. So, I started talking to him and playing back. Elliot had several offers from people to buy him, but the owners' refused due to his wing condition. We struck a friendship that grew stronger each time I visited. I brought Newt for a visit, they hit it off, we had all bonded and home he came. He is my "old soul", sensitive, sweet and loving. I call him my "little man".
I moved to FL about 15 yrs ago. Most of my family was here at that time. I work in telelcommunications as a service engineer. I really love living in Florida.
I've always loved animals (pretty much since birth) - all kinds -its a lifestyle for me rather than a hobby. And once I "adopt" a new animal, for me it's learning, learning, learning. Actually, my first bird was a Robin that had fallen out of its nest and I nurtured back to health. I think I was about 6. When I was a kid, my mother used to cringe because she never knew what I was going to bring home. I grew up in WV by the river, so it was birds, rabbits, rats, cats, dogs - you name it... LOL
What other type of pets do you own?
