I had all my birds out together today! The past few weeks I have been taking Charlie into the little-bird room to hang out on the playstand or on the floor with the littlies in or on their cages. Today I took the playstand into the lounge (neutral territory) and Charlie on the chair with me as we all watched an African movie. During the movie I bought Ash, Pea and Jaeg down onto the chair and Charlie didn't mind at all. Charlie and Jaeger went exploring on the floor and Jaeger chased Charlie... and he RAN! Meine kleine grune jagermeister is still the king... even though Charlie is around 355 grams heavier! I thought Jaeger was tough to put Ashling in her place when she is twice his size... He is such a conure. I put them all on a mattress together and they shared some chikpeas and lentils. They were all very peaceful and there were no fights. Ashling bounced playfully after Charlie and again he avoided confrontation and walked away from her. I moved the playstand to the study- another neutral area- and everyone hung out there for a while foraging together. Charlie generally avoided the others and they gave him some distance- he'd open his beak or mock lunge at them if they got too close (he didn't have the choice to run away while on the playstand). Peanut seemed to want to kiss Charlie and walked right up to him so he tried to peck Peanut to ward him off (I got this on video). Peanut got the message and left him alone after that. Charlie doesn't bite them, or act aggressively at all. I am so pleased they all seem to get along! I thought Charlie would be jealous and try to do away with the competition. I was scared to even let them near each other but Charlie's not out to get them. If he were conure sized I'd probably let them sort out the pecking order themselves but with his beak I can't risk anything so I will always supervise them together. I got lots of pics so I'll post them soon
Just as a side note, Charlie does not bite me anymore at all- if he wants me to leave him alone he'll move away or peck/ tap my hand with his beak. His hatred for my mum has grown though- if she comes into the room he will SCREECH which drowns out all noise (this is good if she is telling me off ) We just ignore him until he calms down. If my mum talks to him or goes near his cage, he ferociously attacks his toys or shreds things, or climbs to the top of the front of the cage to get close to her and bites the bars. I think mum takes it personally so she's not too fond of Charlie but I'm sure she just reminds Charlie of someone awful from his past. On the other hand, he loves every one of my girl friends and often tries to do the naughty with them. My mum is the only female he hasn't liked... maybe it's her short cropped hair. He hates guys, no exceptions so far.
