Church musician and composer
Soon to acquire a beautiful, playful, fearless and affectionate Hahn's Macaw!!
I'm a transplant to the Midwest from Virginia. A trained church musician, I also compose, garden, love to cook and eat, scuba dive, travel, volunteer, and attend theatre and concerts.
I have given thought for some time to getting a pet bird, and have been researching and reading copiously. I think the clincher was the morning of day 10 in San Juan in the middle of November, during our post-election vacation.
My partner and I were sitting on the balcony of our 10th-floor room at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan, enjoying our morning coffee and looking out over the ocean, the brightening of the morning, a cruise ship steaming into the port, the walls and fortifications of Old San Juan, and enjoying the beauty of it all. Ron pointed west and asked, "What's that?" We stared, and wouldn't you know...it was a parrot flying toward the building! It was at our height, and flew by the balcony, probably about 50 feet away, and then disappeared around the corner of the building. It was wonderfully colorful, and flying with determination. I'll not forget that ever!
And, right before Thanksgiving, having never even considered it...I got a tattoo on my left calf. I took in a book on Eclectus parrots to the shop, showed a great picture of a male Eclectus to the Tattoo artist. He free-drew a great likeness of the bird, and then proceeded to etch and wonderfully color a great tattoo for me. It's healing well, and is, well, just plain hot!
Anyway...I've been reading this site and the forum topics ravenously for the past several weeks (since getting back from PR), and am taking the plunge and joining this great group of folks.
I'm actively searching for my pet, and hope soon to regale you with stories about Tristan (or Isolde). St. Louis folks, give me a shout out!
Best wishes and happy parenting to all!
What other type of pets do you own?
