In Topic: NIBBLING Ekkie - Female 4.5mths

Our Ekky Basil used to be cuddly as a baby, but grew out of it. He used to just sit snuggled up on our lap/chest and be able to take all you give. Now he doesnt like it near as much. There was a stage at about Lani's age where he did bite me a couple of times hard. I told him no and put him back in his cage immediately. He hasnt bitten me hard for some time. As for nibbling, he does it alot. If i touch him or put my hand in his cage he will usually just grab me very lightly and let go. I dont see it as an issue, seems to me he just wants to check out what is in his face :P

He does however still get in sooky cuddly moods occasionally and i make the most of it

Good point taken with the diet changing thing, i do understand why you would want to do it :P

Just to let you know last week I emailed vetafarm stating that my bird eats their maintenance pellets and want to try others without buying whole bags. They suggested what would be best for basil and happily sent me out some free samples. Might be good to drop them an email and see what they can do.

I use a fold-up umbrella stand. They are not really heavy like traditional umbrella stands. The one i bought could fit a branch about 2 inches thick and has a screw type bolt to hold it in the tube. The one i got is similar to this one..

I cant get the link to work?? its a umbrella stand that is basically a vertical pipe with 4 fold out legs that sit flat on the ground.
I found it very stable, even when the weight was one 1 side.

In Topic: moved to mums house, she has a dog, how to tell if bird is stressed

I think it's great, especially since you plan on getting a dog. The pug is a perfect breed for Basil's introduction to dogs. I have a old cocker spaniel and a young chihuahua mix and neither they or the birds are interested in each other overmuch. The dogs appreciate the loot they get from the birds dropping things and the birds like to hear me order the dogs around. LaFitte loves telling them, 'get over here' or whistling for them.

There is a good chance that Basil will consider a dog part of his flock once he's living with one long-term. This is a great opportunity for him, so be glad the dog is polite and allows close inspection!

Yeah im really happy with how they are. Tonight was the 3rd night here and the dog didnt bother the bird much at all now. Mum was saying how quiet Basil is compared to the corella my brother used to have! I must say Im proud of Basil he is being so well behaved!! :P
