How soon can finches leave home?

I have four baby Shaft-Tails that fledged on Easter. They have never returned to the nest and they are eating on their own. I plan to keep two babies and give the parents and two babies away. How long should I wait.

i think they are ready now. are the parents feeding them at all, or are they totaly feeding themselves? if they know how to eat, they will eat when they are hugry, parents or not, but if you would feel better wait another week.

Finches will beg from their parents long after they can feed themselves, but I would probably wait about a month after they fledged, just to be sure. Would love to see photos...hint hint

how cute, i am hand raiseing 4 zebra finches due to a death in the family (their mother). their pin feathers are starting to bloom into real feathers. it looks like i have a brown one and three normal greys. in her first clutch, she had 2 chicks, one brown hen and a normal grey cock. they wont get sex demographic colors till after they've fledged and weened. they should fledge in 1 1/2- 2 more weeks, im not sure of the hatch dates, i didnt find them til i was removeing moms body monday. they might be a week or week and a half, judgeing be the rate of maturity of past clutches. i had 3 pairs but one of my white hens is a non producer. shes an egg laying machine, but she doesnt want sex, she sleeps next to him, and they preen each other, so its not a hate problem, he makes advances, but she just wont have it.

That picture was adorable. Did you just catch them all sitting together with the camera?
