Posting Photos
Thought I would do a guide for members, but wasn't sure where to post it at... maybe someone might want to put a sticky on it or something somewhere??? Anyway, here it is...
Guide to Posting Images (NOTE: For those of you who do not have your own image editing software, you can resize your photos at IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide ) To upload a photo, go to the top of the page, click on Album at the top (of any page), and a drop down menu will appear. (*Click Here* if you can't easily find the Album link above) Then click on Upload Photos. From there it should be pretty self explanitory. If you have photos of a specific bird, I.E. a cockatiel, you would put the photo into the Cockatiel Album via the drop down menu. Please try to keep specific photos where they belong so that they do not take up space in other areas. There are specific spots for species specific, aviary photos, The Flock for more than one species of bird in a photo, even Member Photos of shots of yourself, and a Multimedia Clips for those special videos of yours! After you have selected which gallery the photo will be posted in, you then browse your computer for a photo to upload, then add a title and description. Once you have filled in the fields, press 'Upload/Submit'. Under 'Extra Options', you can also upload an image via another website. All you need is the URL of the photo. To get the URL, simply right click on the image, copy the Address (URL), and paste it into the box. (examples below) Then below the image, hit the 'Upload/Submit' button. You will be taken to a second page where you can put the image into a specific category, give it a name, and description. Hit "Process" and the image will be uploaded directly into the BirdBoard Photo Album! ![]() ![]() To post the image from the album into a post, there are two URLs below the photo (once uploaded). The address/URL is below 'Aditional Info' viewed here. ![]() For large images (larger than 500x375), use the first URL called Linked Thumbnail: (highlighted in blue for your convenience). For smaller images (500x375 or smaller) you can use the second URL called BB Code: (highlighted in green for your convenience). Once you've chosen to use either the full sized image or the thumbnail, just click on 'copy to clipboard' (below your choice), then paste it into a post. If you wanted, you could also highlight the text and press Ctrl + C. You can right click in the post and select 'Paste' or press Ctrl + V. The photo itself will then appear in your post once you hit 'Submit'. If you want, you can position the image within the post at right, center, or left buy adding the alignment code around the image code. Here is an image to show it… Notice the tags at the very beginning and end of each image code??? ![]() If done correctly you’ll end up with something like this (except with images of course) Left Alignment Right Alignment Center Alignment One can also show thumbnails of the photos, and when you click on the thumbnails, a new page with the larger photo will open. The thumbnail of the image is the one displayed in the specific gallery among the thumbnails of other photos. Here are the codes for HTML and BBC… ![]() If you do this correctly, you’ll end up with this (Note: click on the photo) This guide may be confusing when mentioning the HTML and BBC code together. So try to remember this: HTML uses angle brackets (< >) or greater than and lesser than signs. HTML is also used in designing websites. BBC code uses box brackets ([ ]) and is mainly used in forums and boards. BirdBoard uses BBC code. ------------------------------------------------------------ If however you do not want to upload the photo into the BirdBoard Album, you can upload a photo (or several) into a post. When creating a new thread, or replying to one (make sure you either hit "Post Reply" or "Go Advanced" if you are replying to an already made thread/post), there are "Additional Options" below the post. ![]() Scroll down to the second box in Additional Options, which reads "Attach Files" (highlighted in blue for your convenience). Click on "Manage Attachments" and a small window will open (be sure that you don't have any firewalls or pop-up blockers on!). ![]() (edited for your convenience) The first little box in this window says "Upload File from your Computer". In this box, click on "Browse" to find the specific image you want to upload, and once you have found it and submitted (the image address from your computer will be displayed to the left of "Browse"), click on "Submit". This way, images will show up below your posts as thumbnails, and one can then click on the image to view a larger photo. Or even if all the info about posting a photo into a post is confusing, you can also use the "Manage Attachments" to direct link an image from another site into the forum.... This may prove to be good to use where sites don't allow direct linking. Just enter the image url into the second box below (3 boxes total to put 1 or more links into), and press 'Upload'! Note: You can upload up to 5 photos into one post at a time, from your computer and/or from a website using the Manage Attachments option. As far as the two images below, the first one of two budgies was uploaded off of my computer. The second one, Casey my tiel, is an old photo that is hosting on a website that doesn't allow direct linking.

Very well written, Monica! Thank you!
![]() I would also like to add that you can upload images direct to the Birdboard album and then use "copy to clipboard" and then paste it into a thread. That gives an extra advantage of having your photo permanently in our album. Link to album: http://www.birdboard.com/album/ Example of photo pasted from Birdboard album into a thread (this is Manikay, my baby Princess):

Okay, the post has been modified to be only for BB use, and all Photobucket info has been taken out! If you think it needs any changing, I'd be more than glad to fix anything! Just let me know! (it might, since I only retyped one part and my mind has been going back and forth on things to make sure it gets done as correctly as possible!)

This article has been updated. If you still see the old album upload with only one link (and not two with the boxes highlighted in blue or green) please refresh the page!
If you see boxes that aren't normally highlighted (in blue or green), then no need to resfresh!
